We’ve known for a while that Solyndra was going to be a problem for the President, but only know is it becoming clear how much of a problem it truly is.

We’ve learned over the last few months how some of Solyndra’s biggest investors were also major donors to the Obama campaign, and many have speculated that these donations played a role in the award of over $500 million that went to the company. But now we know just how deep the connections between Barack Obama and Solyndra go.

Recent documents uncovered during a congressional investigation reveal that Solyndra officials referred to the Obama administration as the “bank of Washington.” To make matters worse, as Solyndra’s impending collapse became evident to the folks in the White House, the administration had to make a call—save money and cut off Solyndra, or pour more taxpayer money into the company and perhaps save face. The White House, of course, chose to spend more.

After all, what’s a few hundred million when your budget contains a trillion dollar deficit?

Every job candidate knows to prepare for the inevitable interview question: what are your worst faults? The customary pre-packaged answers are: I work too hard, I am too committed to my job, I am too much of a perfectionist, and I can’t tolerate sloppiness because I am too organized.

A version of the classic interview query was put to Barack Obama today for a news show set to air on CBS This Morning on Sunday. The President was asked to recount the biggest mistakes of his first term. Right on cue, he offered the following gem of the genre:

the mistake of my first term – couple of years – was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right. And that’s important. But the nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times.

In other words, the President made no mistakes, and just had a little problem in communicating his brilliant achievements to the American people.

We don’t have enough space here on the Internet to list all of the real mistakes committed over the past three-plus years by this most flawless of presidents. Somewhere high on the list would be the fact that as the end of his term approaches, some 23 million Americans are unemployed or not fully participating in the job market. And given that Barack Obama’s ability to “tell a story” is legendary—after all, the man wrote and published two separate autobiographies even before he became President—color us skeptical that a failure to communicate is his worst failing of his presidential term.
